The Challenge: Located high on the jagged slopes of North San Diego County, San Elijo Hills encompasses 2,000 acres with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. The vision was to design a traditional residential community with a unique sense of place, incorporating a pedestrian-friendly town center, outdoor gathering spaces, varied architecture, close-to-home schools and distinctive parks on the steep topography, in addition to leaving over 1,000 acres in open space.
The Solution: To reach the goal of creating a balance of nature, comfort, convenience and value in San Elijo Hills, NG+P utilized a traditional approach to community design with restaurants and shops facing tree-lined streets. The town square included an expansive community center, new schools and a 19- acre park. An eighteen-mile system of natural hiking trails connected distinctive neighborhoods of single family homes, live/work spaces, town homes and estates.
