The Challenge: Strategically located adjacent to Jacobs Field, Gund Arena and the Terminal City complex, 42 acres of prime real estate is nestled in the heart of downtown Cleveland, Ohio. Surrounded on three sides by the Cayahoga River with access to the mainland by road, train and ferry, The Peninsula had been zoned semi-industrial. The area’s future growth was focused on turning the Peninsula into a mixed-use urban village with apartments, office towers and an active commercial center.

The Solution: NG+P designed a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly urban village radiating out from an impressive tree-lined central boulevard. The primary objective was to increase the continuity of uses with office towers, shops and restaurants along the boulevard and at the ferry terminus. A decorative roundabout and pedestrian park created a strong sense of place and highlighted two 28-story office towers, which provide a visual balance to the large, historical Terminal City located across the river.

A variety of residential choices, including work/live, town homes and apartment communities, are designed to capture river and cityscape views. Residents enjoy easy access to offices, restaurants and retail shops.
